Meditation – Focused Thinking

Posted on

Psalm 1:2

And in His law he meditates day and night.

Not only does the one blessed by God avoid the wrong counsel and friends, not only does he delight in the Word but he also meditates upon it.

All of us meditate.  Someone says something unkind to us and we meditate on what they said.  The doctor tells us something and we meditate on what he or she really meant.  The car develops a new noise and we meditate on what the cause and the cost may be to fix it.  To meditate means to spend time in focused thinking.  We focus on all types of conversations and events.  When we want to do something we meditate on how to make it happen. When we want to buy something we meditate on how to get it.  Focused thinking is something we all do.

But, do we meditate on God’s law and on His word?  Meditating on God’s word is meditating on God for He wrote it.  When we focus our thinking on a passage of scripture we are learning about the God behind it.  Last Sunday I brought out a meditation on the book of Esther seeing God from chapter 1 to the end.  This is what God wants us to do; He wants us to know Him by meditating on His word.

If I am not careful I will spend too much time meditating on people’s problems.  It is what I hear about.  It drags me down.  It negatively affects my spirit.  Yesterday I turned on Christian music to help redirect my misplaced meditation.  It turned into a time of worship and praise in the background of my mind.

Turn your focused thinking, your meditation, upon the Word of God.  That means you need to spend time daily reading it.  Make it your book.  Ask God to speak to you through it.  Then you will find yourself meditating on it and on Him.

I thought that after VBS the week would slow down.  Whew, it is still moving as quickly as ever.  It is Friday already.  Remember to keep Pastor Bill in your prayers as he ministers at Spring Meadow and at Sunrise Assisted Living.  If you have children at home for the summer you really should take them to one of our nursing home services.  The people there love children; they are a great blessing to the service.

Tonight is the RU anniversary.  This begins at 7:00 and all are invited to come.  We will be celebrating the opportunity to pull men and women out of their addictions for six years.  Addictions ministry, like rescue missions, is slow and hard work.  While we have not had the numbers we thought we might have we still rejoice in those whom God has allowed us to touch over the years.  Join us tonight.

This morning we are having a daycare graduation.  I will be giving the gospel to the parents and grandparents there.  Connie does a great job making this a special event but her goal is for the parents to hear about Christ.  Pray for some to come to the miracle of salvation.

Sunday morning we will be taking time for VBS testimonies.  I have a video and some pictures we will be running.  Try to be on time as we will be getting into this fairly early in the service.  I will be bringing a message from Isaiah 41 on the supernatural work of God.  Have you seen God answer prayer in a supernatural way?  If not, why pray?  God is the God of the supernatural. Let’s look at this and then begin to pray for Him to do the supernatural here.

Have a great day in the Lord ,

PS
