1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”
14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”
Today I am giving you the “book-ends” of Psalm 91. In years past I read verse 1 and asked God what His secret place was. I wanted to know where and what that secret place was so that I could enjoy living in His protective shadow. As New Testament believers in Jesus Christ, we find the secret place of the Most High through the sacrifice of the Savior. With our sins eternally forgiven and with us enjoying the imputed righteousness of Jesus, we live in the secret place of the Most High. We live, as it were, in His eternal presence already. Those who don’t know God’s forgiveness through Christ live hoping to get where we are. They strive with more religion and more good thoughts but never really attain the secret place, the glorious presence of God.
We can say with the Psalmist, “the Lord is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in Him I will trust” because we are trusting in Him. We have found Him able to forgive and to restore and we live rejoicing in this glorious relationship with God, our Abba Father. In all ways, our Abba Father is worthy of our trust.
The last three verses have always been special to me because the speaker has changed. No longer is the Psalmist writing but God is speaking directly to me. (Note the quotation marks.) So in this paragraph God is responding to my actions of setting my love upon Him. Because I have set my love upon God He will deliver me; because I know His name, God has set me on high. When I call on Him He will answer me. He will be with me in trouble, He will deliver me and honor me, He will satisfy me with long life and He will show me His salvation. What a great way for God to confirm His care for me. Now these verses can become special to you.
I have greatly enjoyed the Creation study. The biblical study of Creation throughout the Bible is challenging to the cultural teachings of evolution. At some point we who call ourselves Bible believing Christians have to come to grips with God’s teaching and decide what we are going to follow.
Continue to pray one for another. We who have the Lord in us are people of His love. Whom does He want you to love for His sake this week?
Have a great day in the Lord, PS
