1 Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!
2 His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, merciful, and righteous.
As many of you know, my mother-in-law, Jean Alexander, died on Monday. She had a six to eight year battle with Alzheimer’s. I have been a part of the Alexander family for forty years. When Bobbi was just sixteen I began to go to her house. It was well known that her mother loved me before she did. We are thankful to God for His evident grace in mom’s life. She manifested the fruit of a Christian wife and mother to us all.
On Monday morning I read Psalm 112 and thought of Ed and Jean as parents. They definitely evidenced the fear of the Lord and thus knew the blessing of the Lord in their home. They greatly delighted in the commandments of God by seeking His wisdom and by serving His kingdom. Together, they were an example of the power of the gospel to us all.
As a result, their offspring are mighty and blessed. The multiple years of Christians ministry in their four children would be over 100 years worth! Their house knew joy and the peace of the Lord. Their entire generation, from Ed and Jean in their 80’s to the youngest great-grand children one and two months old all know the blessing of God through Ed and Jean’s example.
Wealth and riches… maybe not wealth of money but riches that money cannot buy have been a part of their lives for years. Their righteousness in Christ is enduring and we are all thankful for their portrayal of the Savior to us.
Their light has indeed dawned in the darkness. Both of them came from homes where alcohol reigned. Ed and Jean knew the darkness of a drunk dad and pained mothers. But coming to Christ they came out of that darkness and determined to walk in the light of Christ whom they found gracious, merciful and righteous. Because of their journey by faith from the darkness to the light they showed us grace, mercy and righteousness.
My gratitude goes to God for His merciful call to my father and mother-in-law. She is with her Lord today and we still have each other to rejoice in the reality of her faith, which showed in all parts of her life.
There is a wake today for Jean at Kurtz Funeral Home in Frankfort. It is from 5:00-8:00. The funeral tomorrow is at 10:30 at Kurtz. All of the family is in except for two grandchildren. Come rejoice with us in the life and death and eternal life of Jean Alexander.
I had a great time this week with Justin and Katelyn, Joel, Hudson, Owen and (of course) Carson. What a joy to be with them and enjoy the shared love of that home.
Sunday should be a normal day here at Grace for Life.
