Weapons for the Battle

Psalm 119

9     How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.

10   With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!

11   Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

12   Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes.

13   With my lips I have declared All the judgments of Your mouth.

14   I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches.

15   I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways.

16   I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.

Verses 9-11 are verses that I memorized as a child.  Through the years these verses have often guided me in my spiritual battles.  It is the word of God that is our greatest weapon against the spiritual enemies.  We take heed, we listen, to the word of God.  We seek the Lord with our whole hearts.  We do not wander from His commandments. We hide His word in our hearts to keep us from sinning against Him.   This has been my impetus for memorizing the scriptures.

The following verses have verbs in them that continue this thought.  We see the verbs, “teach” and “declare” and “rejoice” and “meditate” and “contemplate” and “delight” and “will not forget” all attached to God’s word and its power in our lives to help us overcome sin.

Go back now and re-read these verses looking at their teachings on overcoming sin.  Meditate on them throughout the day as your new guide when faced with temptations.

Some of you have heard already but all have not. Brent and Becky Sivnksty will only be with us Sunday and Monday of next week.  Becky has a cyst that her doctor wants to run a scan on Wednesday to see if it is cancerous.  This has just come up and speed in diagnosis and removal is very important.  We will have service Sunday morning, evening and Monday evening.

Pray for Becky and I know our ladies will encourage her with prayers and love as she faces this new battle in her life. (As Bobbi has mentioned, please do not tell her horror stories of people you know who ended up in very serious condition. Those stories are NOT helpful.)

We do have prayer meeting, Kids4Truth, and youth group tonight. I trust to see many of you joining us for prayer for our meetings.

Have a great day in the Lord, PS
