Jumping to the wrong conclusions

John 2:18–22

18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”

19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”

21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.

22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.

Have you ever wondered what the Lord was doing in your life?   Have you ever just sensed that things were not going the way they should? These Pharisees were listening to someone who just told them that if they destroyed this temple he could rebuild it in three days. How absurd this man was! Didn’t he know it took Herod’s builders 46 years to build it? This guy really needed a reality check because he was so out of touch with the real facts of life.

Are we that much different? When we have plans that God wants to change don’t we take time to tell Him just how much time and effort we had into these plans and just how unfair He was to make us change them? After all, doesn’t God realize how long it takes for us to do things? Does He really think that He can just move in and change things around? The Pharisees said, “No, we won’t let you make changes to our time developed system.” We look at the Pharisees as having made a grave mistake.

The next time God changes your plans think about the Pharisees. They had no problem telling Jesus that he was in error, that there was no way it could work out the way he said. Then take a step back and remember that God’s plans may not be about today but when He brings them to pass we will even have a better understanding of today.

During prayer time tonight we will focus our prayer on this Sunday’s Harvest America event. Many have been invited. Their willingness to come will require the Lord to do His work to get them here. Once here, they will hear the Gospel! Satan is against that. Pray with us for souls to be saved and for our church to be encouraged.

This Sunday is our church dinner day. Be sure to bring enough food for your family and a little more to share. After lunch some of us will be going out to pass out flyers for the evening event. If you want to come let me know.

We had two great answers to prayer yesterday. I will bring them up tonight for rejoicing.

Have a great day in the Lord,
