37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Our salvation is secure because it is initiated by the Father and held on to by the Son. Those who see a view of salvation where man has to do something to get saved lose eternal security; for if man has to do something then man can also lose something. But if, in fact, God is the initiator of our salvation and Christ is the holder of our salvation then we cannot do anything to lose our salvation.
There are those who like to say that man has to initiate the faith for salvation. Ephesians 2:8 tells us that even the faith to believe is a gift from God. What part then do we as men and women exercise to be saved? We just surrender. We get off the throne. We humble ourselves when we realize it is our sin that separates us from God. It is from our broken position, crushed by the weight of our sin, that Christ sees and reaches in to saves us from. When Christ takes our sin upon Himself and gives us His righteousness we are made holy before God with the righteousness of Christ. “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” How do we get pure? What human work do we do to gain purity before God? There is no work that we can do, salvation has nothing to do with us, it is all of God.
Re-read this passage and see if you can see any other method of salvation? God gives us to the Son. The Son, always doing the will of the Father, commits to keeping all whom the Father gives to Him. All whom the Father gives to the Son and all whom the Son keeps have everlasting life and will enjoy an eternal resurrection with the Son.
Rejoice today in God’s complete plan of salvation. For when God saves us He is the One who changes us into His image. We are new creatures in Christ, born-again into God’s family, eternally adopted by Him into His grace. Therefore, nothing can separate us from the love of God. (If we had something to do with our salvation we then could also lose it. But since it is all from God we have no fear that He would take it away from us.) Hallelujah! What a Savior.
Tuesday was a good day. We had a good service at Sunrise Assisted Living. The library study was very helpful in preparation for Sunday’s message. My dad had a good day. Bobbi’s dad went home. We are grateful for a good day.
Tonight is our Wednesday night prayer and Bible study. Our church in this community truly needs the prayers of its people. We are in a hard community to build a Christian church. Unless the Lord breaks into the hard hearts of the people we know and love they will remain in their self-sufficient and lost condition. Join us in prayer tonight. We also have Kids4Truth and Youth group at 7:00. See you then.
Have a great day in the Lord,
