42 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
44 Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. 46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.
You have to find this interesting. Just after a reminder of the prophecy of Isaiah where the people would hear and not believe, John writes that many believed but because of the fear of being put out of the synagogue wouldn’t confess Christ openly. He then tells us why this was so, they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. After the resurrection many of these did publicly profess Christ but not during His life.
Do we struggle with this? Are there times we keep our faith silent lest we endure the harassment of others? Do we speak up for Christ as often as we should? Do we stand against their wickedness and stand up for righteousness as often as we ought? Or are we afraid of what someone might say? Wickedness needs barriers and we, filled with the Spirit, are to be those barriers. We must stand up for Christ who saved us and who set us free.
Then Christ said that when we believe in Him we believe in the Father. Jesus came to point us to God. He came with the light of the Father so we would not walk in darkness. Therefore, we must not be afraid nor ashamed to show that Light. Solomon wrote that the fear of man is a snare, it holds us back. Let the Lord shine through you. Let His light shine whenever it needs to. Let us not be like those who loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. We have the Light.
Please pray for Pastor Bill today. He is in the hospital with some internal bleeding somewhere. He is in good spirits, better than my mom who is frightened by it. There are supposed to go see my sister and her family Saturday. This might put an end to those plans.
Saturday afternoon some men are cutting trees at church. If you are available to come help we will need help dragging and stacking.
Sunday afternoon we are going to the Riverwalk for outreach. Pray for God to open hearts to His gospel. We long to see people saved but only God can breathe new life into a dead heart. Pray that He will.
Today is also Stefani’s birthday. Send her a greeting if you can.
Have a great day in the Lord,
