Philippians 2:3–5 (ESV)
3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
On a day of victory for the majority and a loss for the minorities let us look with care to all people. As a political conservative I rejoice in many of the outcomes of this election. As a Christ follower I want those who feel like they have lost to know that they are still people to be loved and cared for. Stefani received a group text this morning that all Trump voters showed hate to all LGBT and immigrant kids. The “hater” mantra needs to be struck down by the church of Jesus Christ.
We, who are called to show humility and love to all people, should be on the front lines of showing others to be more significant than ourselves. We do this by looking to their interests and not to our own. At the end of the day and the end of our lives what we do for Jesus Christ and for the furtherance of His kingdom is of greatest value. Perhaps today is a day when we as the church of Jesus Christ can say to those who feel that they have lost that there is still a God in heaven who loved them enough to send His only Son to die for their sins and for ours.
Instead of dividing along party lines may we unite under the love of God and the offer of God’s salvation to all. Salvation is salvation from sin. Love does not remove sin, repentance and faith in the work of Christ does. While we pray for the salvation of our leaders let us pray for humility and brokenness on the part of those who scream so loudly that they are proud of their sinful lives. Let us commit to continued prayer for President-elect Trump and his team to show true leadership. Let us commit to pray for those who think their lives will change that they will come to find the right change which is found in 2 Corinthians 5:17.
We have prayed for God to show Himself mighty. Let us now pray that those elected will thank God and will seek to rule in His wisdom following His righteousness.
We took Monday and Tuesday and went with Steven and Rachel and their kids to Wisconsin Dells. Wow, was that a nice and needed time. Bobbi found a great deal for us as long as we listened to a sales pitch. Thanks to Chula Vista for a great time. Whenever we spend time with our children we realize again the blessings of living for Christ. “The blessing of the Lord He makes rich, and adds no sorrow to it.”
Sunday was a great day for our church. God is working in people’s lives each week. It was a joy to see Daniel baptized and to see the thrill he now has for Christ. Pray for the continued working of God in our hearts.
Have a great day in the Lord,
