17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth
This is a very important devotional lesson today. Jesus made a timeless statement here that we must fully understand and totally buy into. There are no absolute truths in culture. Today especially, everything that we thought were common truths held by all have been challenged, twisted, and jettisoned as old, unnecessary, and even hate speech. But Jesus’ teachings have never been more relevant.
Every human being wants to think that they are doing things in a right manner, at least by their own definition of right and wrong. As we know, some people’s life definitions make them criminals, some make them edgy, some make them unkind and so on. But what we all want is to be right at some level.
Here is the problem, the only thing that makes us right, really right not culturally right, is truth. What is truth? Jesus is the way, the TRUTH, and the life. Jesus wants us sanctified, made holy, yes, made right, by God’s truth. Jesus lived the truths of God before all people during His earthly ministry. He blessed marriage at the wedding in Cana. He spoke to marriage being between a man and a woman and being for life. He spoke of living the Ten Commandments and doing so from the heart in the Sermon on the Mount. He cared for people of all races thus addressing prejudice. He cared for a woman caught in adultery while bringing fair judgment on her accusers thus addressing the bully and the one attacked. He then forgave her and sent her home thus addressing compassion. On and on we could go demonstrating the truth of God for life from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
What we do with the truth of God, the person and life of Jesus, is what makes the difference for us. The truth will sanctify us before men and before God. The truth is like soap and water for the soul cleaning dirty places corrupted by sin and its’ deceptive ways. The truth, when fully applied, is the absolute best counseling treatment for the soul. It is better than anyone or anything that can be applied. The truth, Jesus said, sanctifies, makes clean and holy, our souls and then it sets us free.
Set the truth of Christ is like a candle on a hill, like a bonfire on a hill, and let all false thoughts come to it and be shown to be false by it. The truth alone leads us and keeps us in the Light that guides our lives into the right way to live.
I am in Colorado today and tomorrow. So far, Colorado Christian University is a really good school striving to train Christian young people to go out into the world to live for God. We get the tours and the classes and the chapel today.
Sunday is our dinner day at church. This is December so this Sunday will have a Christmas theme to the dinner. Bring something Christmassy for us to enjoy.
Sunday morning in the adult Sunday school we will be getting a demonstration of the Discovery Bible by its creator, Dr Gary Hill. Anyone who reads their Bible would benefit from the Discovery Bible. It is a wonderful tool for making the Bible live in your understanding. This will be an interactive lesson as Gary shows us on the screen and brings the Bible to life right before our eyes. Join us at 9:30. We usually start this class a little late for late-comers but Gary needs the full 45 minutes so don’t be late.
Thank you for your prayers. Pastor Phil has been stronger this week than he has in quite some time. He is believing that God has healed him. Tom still needs our prayers for his body and his soul.
Have a great day in the Lord,
