10 Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
17 “The poor and needy seek water, but there is none,
Their tongues fail for thirst.
I, the Lord, will hear them;
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
18 I will open rivers in desolate heights,
And fountains in the midst of the valleys;
I will make the wilderness a pool of water,
And the dry land springs of water.
19 I will plant in the wilderness the cedar and the acacia tree,
The myrtle and the oil tree;
I will set in the desert the cypress tree and the pine
And the box tree together,
20 That they may see and know,
And consider and understand together,
That the hand of the Lord has done this,
And the Holy One of Israel has created it.
Please notice with me today who is the One doing all of the action for His people. Because we serve a God who is alive, first and foremost in contradistinction to all of the false gods of this world from Allah to dead “saints” to Buddah and every false god in-between, we have a God who sees us in our need, hears our prayers and responds in action unique to Him. We pray to the living God who loves His own so much that He sent His Son to die for us. The God of the Bible, Jehovah of old is the only God that is therefore the only God who sees, hears and answers.
When we seek the Lord in our time of need and when He comes through with His loving care and provision, we see and know that “the hand of the Lord has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.” When the God of heaven responds we know that He is behind His response. Things did not just get better; no, God intervened with His mighty hand to show us His love and power.
Be careful where you go for help. We may not be jumping on the altar of a false god pleading with him to help us as the prophets of Baal did but we might be looking to gods of money, human wisdom, science, friends, success, and others to do what only the God of heaven can do. When we need action from heaven the only place to go is the throne of heaven where the only God dwells and acts.
This Friday Lizzie and Richard Alagaban graduate from BJU. Bobbi and I are going down with Sonya and leaving early tomorrow morning. I will try to get out a devo Friday morning. Pray for our travels and for the Alagaban family.
Have a great day in the Lord,
In 2 Corinthians 5:16-21 we learn about the life in the flesh and the new life in Christ. In this message by Pastor Steve we see how Christ fulfilled redemptive history and is the person of change in our lives. He then looks at our new mission as ministers of this reconciliation.
1 O Lord, You are my God. I will exalt You, I will praise Your name, For You have done wonderful things; Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.
8 He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken.
9 And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.”
In whom are you trusting today? On whom are you waiting today? During President Obama’s years in office a division of our country became evident. It was a division between biblical righteousness and the acceptance of unbiblical lifestyles. Having been allowed for eight years and now under the threat of being pulled away the division is mounting to fever pitch. From riots to demonstrations the divisions between life and death, killing babies and letting babies live, defining a family as a man and woman or using same-sex couples and calling them a family, accepting immigrants no matter what or enforcing two hundred year old immigration laws, and even punishing businesses and schools that won’t support homosexuality, we are divided like never before. Where do we look for help?
Look back at verse 1 where Isaiah said of God, “For You have done wonderful things; Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.“ All that God has said is faithful and true. None of what God said needs to be redefined. God knew what He was saying then and knows what we need to say now. God’s ways are full of wonder, always dependable, and ever true.
Furthermore, those of us who stand on God’s true word will be rebuked now but God will take away that rebuke and give us His eternal blessing. The rebuke of the heathen in this world is nothing in comparison to the eternal blessing of God Almighty. We must remember that all they have is their opinions but we have the very words of our holy, omnipotent God.
In the day of our appointment with the presence of God, those of us who have remained faithful to Him and to His word will be glad and will rejoice in His salvation. My friends, I am not waiting on Springfield nor on Washington to make things better; they are impotent. No, I am awaiting the movement of the God of heaven for when He moves we will eternally rejoice. Rejoice with me now that God is on the throne of heaven far above the thrones of men and women and is working His work on this earth until “that day” when He returns for His own.
Our church attendance was down on Sunday but we had a good service rejoicing in the Lord and focusing on how the Lord Jesus, the center of redemptive history, changes us at salvation and makes us His new creatures. Having changed us and living in us, the Lord Jesus gives us a ministry of reconciliation. 1 Corinthians 5:16-21 is a great passage. The message will be on the website today.
This coming Sunday we will be reporting to the church the results of our church member meetings. The leadership and wives met this past Sunday and looked over the points that were brought up and came up with three tiers of actions points. These are points that you as a congregation made. We will shorten our service this Sunday to go over these results. Thank you for your input into our church.
Pray for my friend Bonnie who is in the hospital. Pray for the doctors to have clarity to see what her needs are so they can effectively treat her.
Have a great day in the Lord,
